GRADINGS
All colour belt gradings are taken by Mr David Oliver 8th Dan (The chairman of the TAGB) where you will perform the set TAGB syllabus, so you are guarenteed quality and a worthwhile achievement right from the start.
Colour belt gradings are done every 3 months up to Blue Belt (4th Kup) and every 6 month up to Black Tag (1st Kup). Gradings cost £25 which includes your new belt.

Black Belt gradings are held at The TAGB Academy in Bristol and run in April and October. These are taken by the full TAGB commitee. The minimum training time for an attempt at Black Belt is 3 and 1/2 years.

| COMPETITIONS (For competition dates, see "upcoming")
Because the TAGB is such a large association, it benefits on being able to hold numerous competitions through the year. We are proud to have some of the best fighters in the World fight for the TABG, such as Warren Vice, Gordon Fern and many many more.
Main Competitions:
Local:

The South East Championship is the most local and smallest competition (approximately 400 competitors), a great for starters and experienced competitors alike. You can enter for individual patterns, trio patterns, individual sparring, tag team sparring and destruction (black belts only). In sparring, yellow tags fight up to blue tags, and blue belts up to black tags. Sparring is mostly point stop.

The Midlands Championship (normally held in Kettering) is another good competition for starters, but benefits from being larger than the South East (Approximately 800 competitors). Colour belts still do point stop sparring, however Black Belts move up to continuous. The same events are available, and the standard is generally higher as more people attend.
National:

The English Championship is normally held in Telford and is a step up. There are a lot more competitors (Approximately 1000-1500) and to accomodate this, there are more divisions for juniors, cadets, adults and executives (Veterans). There is no team pattern event, and all sparring is continuous.

The Welsh Championship in Cardiff although has the same divisions and system as the English, tends to be a little smaller and holds around 800 to 1000 competitors

The Scottish Championship tends to be smaller again and is great as a national competition for lower grades who want to move up a level, if you are willing to travel that is!

The Brisitsh Championship is the biggest of all national competitions and can take in over 2000 competitiors. All the famous faces are seen and the favourite event is the men's black belt tag team. Because the TAGB is a founder member of TKDI (Tae Kwon Do International), this competition is open to all the countries who are members. Frequent participants are The Nederlands and Poland. It is best to enter this competition with a little more experience, or be a competitive spirit!
International:

The TAGB take their national team to many Europeans events. Most of these competitions are open to any TAGB member! Some include great holiday opporunities such as skiing.

The TAGB are also the main association that holds the TKDI World Championships every 2 to 3 years. It is a fantastic opportunity for anyone to compete in this exhilerating event, or even spectate. The last competition had competitiors from over 40 countries! There are many clips on You Tube that would give you a great idea of the standard. It is a very exciting event and not to be missed! It also includes a musical pattern event and National Team sparring. In the last couple of years, this event has been opened to colour belts.
